The Future of Independent Filmmaking

Independent Film is becoming an increasingly compelling segment of the film industry: of all domestic film releases, a large majority is now produced or financed outside of the studio system by independents within the context of a continuously evolving and complex business model. This panel discussion will bring the creators of content together with the financiers and distributors to speculate on the future of one of the more challenging, but creatively and financially rewarding, areas of the film business. Discussion topics to include: 1) The unique challenges associated with independent filmmaking in the current market; 2) New trends in production financing; 3) The impact of new distribution methods, such as direct digital downloads; and 4) The future of international distribution in light of the ongoing threat of piracy. A broad range of Industry-wide perspectives will be provided to ensure a “lively” discussion.
